There is nothing you can tell yourself, nothing you can say, nothing you can think or feel or imagine that is going to get you out of taking action; not even your own mindset.
The only thing that you can do to get what you want is to physically get up and go do something with mental stamina!
Execution is taking action with realistic goals, and appropriate skills. Setting action steps is a strategic planning step, execution is implementing the action steps. Surprisingly for most of our clients, execution is mostly a mental process. Mental stamina and right thinking are required.

How to gain a mental process for execution:
1. Determine your procrastination schedule and MANAGE it.
It sounds funny, but I’m serious! There are so many ways to avoid success in life, but the most sure-fire way is procrastination. Procrastination is a choice, not a weakness. I know exactly when I am procrastinating and why and it has nothing to do with a skill that I do not have. It has everything to do with choosing not to do something because of, well, whatever I can think of.
In order to get a handle on procrastination, you need to create a procrastination schedule. Every time you procrastinate, jot down the day, time frame, and the reason why you are procrastinating at that moment. Once you understand the pattern you can begin to make better choices. It is going to take some time, mental power, and most of all a willingness to change, but it will be worth it in the long run.
2. Do the right things right.
Marketing is a great example to demonstrate this point. The goal of marketing is to persuade your target market to buy your solution. Marketing is the right thing to do, but if you do marketing the right way, all it takes is being extremely confident about the solutions you offer and backing it up with business strategies that you can execute. Many successful sales have been made without spending a dime on social media, advertising, networking, and other marketing mediums. If you learn how to do the right things right for YOUR business industry and target market; your business will execute effectively and efficiently.
3. Identify your weaknesses.
It is really easy to identify your strengths and what you are good at, but can you detail the true weaknesses of your business? I am not talking about poor sales, lack of resources, or lace of capital. These are not weaknesses, they are goals to achieve through strategy, marketing, and operations. A weakness is a lack of aptitude or skill when it comes to business.
For example, if you lack strategic processes, it will take some work to first determine why, and then understand who is weak in strategic planning skills; or who is weak in execution skills. Identify your weaknesses based on the skills that are lacking, first.
4. Learn the art of simplicity.
Instead of thinking for ourselves, we rely on others to think for us. For example, most of you probably already know everything I am touching on to some degree. Maybe you’re not trusting your business instincts. We feel that the more difficult path or authoritative answer must be right. The simple path or simple answer is just too simple, right? How many times have you used this line or heard it from someone else: “It can’t be this simple, can it?”? The next time you ask that question, the answer is yes, it can be that simple!
5. Get fit, focused, organized, and disciplined.
You have to function in an environment that facilitates execution. Most business owners can divide their time into five broad categories: 1) Client Work: meetings and projects; 2) Administrative Work: paperwork, phone calls, emails, etc.; 3) Strategic Work: planning, reading, continued education, documenting, etc.; 4) Marketing Work: selling, networking, brainstorming, etc.; and lastly 5) Procrastination Work: sitting around feeling bad because you are not doing what you were supposed to be doing, so you are doing something else. If your environment is not conducive to how you conduct business it will be very hard to complete simple tasks – get organized.
6. Get rid of your “excess” baggage.
I say ‘excess’ because we are human and we all have some degree of baggage, whether it is externally-related, like a challenge that involves your family, or internal challenges, those that involve only you. If the baggage is exceeding your emotional capacity, you have excess. Excess baggage may include: negative self-talk, intentional fear, procrastination, and laziness, but the list can go on and on. This is personal baggage, what about the excess baggage in your business operations? This requires you to trim the fat and get lean.
The excess baggage can take on many forms and at some point, it will impede you from executing the vision. To begin peeling off those excess layers of baggage, learn the power of focus and discipline.
As you evaluate and manage these six areas, execution will present itself and clarity will take over. Just remember, do not learn the tricks of the trade, learn the trade; if you do you will master the mental process of execution and build a profitable business with longevity.
